5 healthy breakfast ideas for the week

It’s hard to make time for breakfast, especially when you’re in a rush to get out the door. But doing so is important if you want to live a healthy, balanced life. 


While you might not have the time to spend hours cooking a gourmet feast, you can ensure that you give your body the nutrients and energy it needs to power through the rest of the day. The key is choosing the right foods.

1. Avocado toast 

Many health experts consider avocados to be a superfood, and when you look at the health benefits, it’s no wonder why. Avocados come packed with vitamins, nutrients, and healthy fats—all of which can help you look and feel your best.


To make avocado toast, smash an avocado over two slices of toasted multigrain bread. Add two sunny-side-up eggs on top, sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper, and you’re ready to dig in. 

2. Yogurt and berry smoothie 

Breakfast is a great time to get your recommended servings of fruit. Instead of just grabbing an apple or banana on your way out the door, try blending together a simple and delicious smoothie.


Blend together fruit, Greek yogurt, and a liquid of your choice (coconut water, milk, and juice are all great options). If you don’t want to worry about your fruit going bad, frozen fruit is a convenient and excellent option. 

3. Fruit parfait 

Another fruity option, fruit parfaits are delicious and easy to make. They’re also great for using up berries that would otherwise go to waste!


To make one, add a layer of Greek yogurt to a mason jar and follow it up with a layer of berries. Repeat the process until you reach the top of a mason jar, or until you use up your fruit. After you finish making it, you can store your fruit parfait for up to two days in the fridge. 

4. Quinoa fruit salad 

You might not see quinoa as a breakfast food, but mixing it into different dishes is an easy way to get some extra nutrients. 


To make this dish, mix together berries and mango, then throw in a scoop of quinoa. Toss it around, drizzle on some honey, and enjoy. 

5. Breakfast egg muffins

Eggs are one of the best breakfast foods, and contrary to what you might think, recent studies show that a moderate intake of them won’t give you too much cholesterol (1). 


To make breakfast egg muffins, whisk together eggs with spinach, cheese, and bacon. Pour them into muffin tins, then bake them for 15-20 minutes. Once they’re out of the oven, eat them right then and there, or store them in the fridge after they’ve cooled!
