5-minute morning workouts to get your day started

When we wake up in the morning, we may initially feel sluggish and tense. Getting our body ready for the day can make a huge difference in our motivation and energy levels. So, before or after indulging in your morning coffee, it may be worth taking just a few minutes of your morning to pump your body up. To help you out, we’ve come up with a few 5-minute morning workouts that can fit with any fitness level.

We get it, working out first thing in the morning sounds like a lot of work. Luckily, there are ways to get some exercise without heading straight for the gym. We’ve broken down a few workouts ranging from cardio, strength, and stretching.

Cardio:

An effective 5-minute cardio workout doesn’t seem possible, but that couldn’t be less of the case. Moving your body even a little bit can make a huge difference on your overall health, so it’s better to do something rather than nothing at all. A few quick and easy workouts that you can do in the comfort of your own home are jumping jacks, high knees, jogging in place, or jumping rope (if you own a jump rope). One of the main benefits of these cardio workouts is that since they don’t cause too much strain, you may not need to take too many breaks. So, set your timer for 5-minutes and get to work!

Strength: 

One great way that we can wake our muscles up in the morning is a quick floorwork exercise to get the day started. This not only activates our muscles, but also stretches them out so we feel more limber for the rest of the day. One other great thing about a floorwork exercise is that there are tons of different options to choose from. These workouts can be anything from standard crunches, planks, mountain climbers, and more. However, one thing that’s important to remember when doing floorwork is that correct form is key so that you can prevent any injuries or strain. Also, make sure to take breaks when necessary so that you don’t overhaust yourself. If you can do a full five minutes, that’s great. If you need to take a break in between, that’s great too.

Stretching:

Stretching doesn’t get enough credit as a solid workout, but it actually can be a huge help in waking up our muscles and keeping us relaxed for the rest of the day. One great way to get the morning started is by doing a few easy yoga poses so that we don’t overstrain our muscles right when we wake up. We recommend starting in a relaxing child’s pose so that you can stretch out your hips and back for about a minute. Then, consider going into other well-known poses such as downward dog or high lunges so that your legs and arms also can build up some strength. It’s unbelievable how even a little stretching can make a huge difference in your day.

Working out has never been so simple and straightforward. The way we start our morning can easily influence how the rest of our day goes and how our bodies will be feeling later. So, even if you’re feeling extra sluggish one day, take some time to give your body some love and it’ll love you back.
